Travel Guard to the Rescue

Robert Wendt had the worst New Years of his life. After a late-night party with friends and relatives in London, Robert climbed into his compact rental car and started toward his hotel. Just after midnight, a drunk driver hit his car head on at 65 mph. Luckily, Robert purchased travel insurance through Travel Guard. Sasha from Travel Guard made sure that Robert’s hospital bills were paid and contacted Robert’s family in the United States with the news.

Robert was rushed to the Emergency Room of the Ashford Hospital in critical condition. Throughout the days that followed, Sasha kept in touch with family members in the U.S. “It was such a comfort to have someone always standing by to answer our questions about Robert’s progress,” said Diane O’Neil, Robert’s mother. “We must have called a hundred times and each time, Sasha was patient and cheerful.”

Robert and his family learned that he would be partially paralyzed and would need extensive neurological therapy. The frightened family contacted Travel Guard to get Robert air ambulanced back to his home in Houston, Texas.

The Travel Guard Medical Assistance team arranged an ambulance for Robert and paid $20,000 up front in medical evacuation fees. The insurance coverage reimbursed for covered medical costs totaling more than $50,000.
